Continuing Education

I have a new online addiction, like I didn't have enough already. ;- ) Lynda.com I first heard about them out at Macworld, the logo looked a little familiar to me from online searches I had done so I stopped by. Their booth was simple and elegant, the people passionate about their product. Last year they had tremendous growth and I think they're positioned to skyrocket not only financially but even into our culture and consciousness the way google or youtube has.

I just started a new gig with all the pressures that come with that. There's a learning curve in front of me, with no time to waste or excuses. I signed up with lynda and I can't believe the amount of content and the QUALITY of the content on there. There's training on the obvious Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, but also more technical like PHP, MYSQL, Javascript, on and on. I was also intrigued they had obscure topics like Color Management and have over 9 hours worth of video on font management. (That's crazy!?)

It's basically training videos, but what's cool is their format. They're broken up into 5-10 minute videos that are very easy to watch, so you don't sit through 30 minutes to an hour of mind numbing agony. I've found this model is very effective for me to learn with. I pop on a video or two with 10 minutes of spare time and I absorb it and move on. I feel the knowledge is staying with me. We'll see.
