Mark Recchi for a cool mil is a great signing. He brings experience and heart to a young team and lets not forget to mention he is a gem in front of the net...

i like recchi and bitz for the money they got... but im going to think neither really was expected to get more. Recchi got about the same last year when he was a year younger. Bitz hasnt established himself as an NHL regular yet.

Hunwick will be an interesting signing for us. Lots of posters are happy to be forecasting 1.2 up to 2 mill per for him. I dont think he has proven he's a fulltime NHL regular to me though.

I keep remembering Wideman took bascially like 600k his first year with us after similar season to Hunwicks.

I think a soft 5/6 guy that goes half his year with 2/3 points or whatever it was hunwick managed after that first amazing hot streak he had is going to be WAY OVERPAID if he does get 1.5 or 2 mill.

So if he gets that much... it will become one of the worst deals of the year IMO... but if he gets under a mill like i believe then I suppose many fans here will consider it a hell of a signing.

Aucoin for 2.25 was reasonable I think... but no bargain basement. He is a guy I like, but 2.25 seems fair. I think Leopold got fair money. Its a good deal for Florida but not a huge bargain for a guy that has been so injured.

I think the Sedins got fair money... but again definitely no bargain when you look at term. it is rather just a fair amount for ppg front line forwards that are always such huge plus players.

How about something centered around Liles, Hannan, Clark or Salei?

Awesome article.

I like this little tidbit, " I'm not a fighter, but each time I got involved in fights, it was to defend a teammate, so I have no problem going if the right situation calls for it.”

Kris Versteeg, Cam Barker, Ben Eager, Colin Fraser, Aaron Johnson and Troy Brouwer could all be UFA's if this goes through.

I'll take him for dirt cheap but I'm sure a lot of other teams would offer him slightly more than we can. Maybe if absolutely nobody wants him and he still wants to play we can toss him Mark Recchi money. ;)

Let's Look at the Off-Season in a Different Light

I think Chia is prolly shopping Sturm and Ward hoping to move their contracts. Sturm is a tough move because if he doesn't want to go, he doesn't have to.

I think Kessel will remain here somehow.

Sometimes I'm just absolutely amazed at some of the opinions on this forum. Look, Hnidy had some positives: he was tough and strong.

But let's not pretend that he was some kind of great asset to the team. He handled the puck like it was C4, and he was absolutely the worst dman I've seen in a LONG time at starting the breakout.

Good luck to the guy, but I'm not going to miss watching him at all.

Was a stay at home, keep it simple, 6th defenseman. And, tough as nails. That's all.

Wideman handled the puck at times like it was C4, too. Difference is, I expect that from Hnidy, not Wideman.

We've had worse bottom feeders than Hnidy, and recently.
