West leaves Tulsa for Illinois staff (AP)

Co-defensive coordinator Ron West has left Tulsa's football staff to become an assistant coach for Illinois. Tulsa announced West's departure Monday, saying he would coach inside linebackers for the Illini. West had spent only one season at Tulsa after previously serving as defensive coordinator at Clemson.

A 22-year-old quarterback at Louisiana Tech is free after posting $500 bond following his arrest on a charge of driving while intoxicated. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents, working with a drunk-driving task force, arrested Ross A. Jenkins, of Ruston, early Sunday. His vehicle was stopped at a checkpoint about 1:40 a.m.

Florida State announced Sunday it will vacate 12 football victories and a 2007 men's track national championship in an academic cheating scandal, along with dozens more victories and placings across 10 men's and women's sports. The NCAA stripped the school of wins in which 61 athletes implicated in the scandal contributed.

LSU's Trindon Holliday scored a pair of third-quarter touchdowns to help his Texas all-star team beat The Nation's squad 36-17 on Saturday. Holliday, a 5-foot-5 running back, scored first on a 67-yard pass from Ryan Perrilloux, a Jackson State senior quarterback, with 10:46 left in the third quarter.

Brewster's new deal has smaller buyout (AP)

When Dan Mullen was hired to be Mississippi State's head coach on Dec. 10, 2008, he spoke early and often about recruiting the state of Mississippi. In his mind, a Mississippi State recruiting class that dominates within his state's borders can equal a championship program.

Is that true? Hard to say, and we won't know for some time. But it's clear that Mullen is set in making Mississippi his prime focus.

When Mullen announced his 2010 signing class—his second class and first full one as the State head coach—on Wednesday, he claimed 16 players who played high school football in Mississippi and three more who came through the state's fertile junior college system. Minnesota has named running backs coach Thomas Hammock as the team's co-offensive coordinator. Coach Tim Brewster announced the move Friday, a few weeks after hiring Jeff Horton as offensive coordinator to replace Jedd Fisch, who left for the NFL. Offensive line coach Tim Davis has also carried the title of running game coordinator.
