Should you find yourself wandering around the city of Leiden, the Netherlands sometime, you may notice some curious markings on the city&os;s walls.

These Muurgedichten ("Wall Poems") adorn many of the town&os;s streets (clickable map), and many English-language poets are represented: one John Keats, for instance, inside a bookshop; Dylan Thomas, E. E. Cummings, W.B. Yeats, some guy called William Shakespeare, or this ode to Charlie Parker by American William Waring Cuney.

LIEVE VRIENDEN,

Lang niet gesproken, etc. etc., ja andere dingen hè, druk, zit weer een groot project in de pijpleiding waar je binnenkort meer van zal horen, en op termijn wellicht een herstart van dit hier siteje.

Maar daar bel ik niet voor.

Voor éénieder die e.e.a. nog via de feeds volgt of anderszins langs komt waaien heb ik een belangrijke mededeling. Rijkelijk laat, maar ik hoor het net pas: straks om 0:20 begint de eerste aflevering van THE WIRE op BBC 2. Elke werkdag vanaf vandaag, alle seizoenen 1 t/m 5, de hele mikmak.

KIJK, LIEVE LEZER, DOE HET VOOR UZELF, KIJK!

Excuses voor de kapitalen, maar ze zijn gerechtvaardigd. Het is wat laat op de avond, dat weet ik ook, maar anders stof je je videorecorder maar af. Zelden is televisiekijken zo de moeite waard geweest als bij The Wire. Ik zal je een lange, onsamenhangende verzameling redenen besparen, ik ben ook maar een fanboy. Laat ik me beperken tot een linkje naar dit uitstekende stuk van Charlie Brooker.

Het kan een aflevering of vier, vijf duren voordat je er, om een cliché te gebruiken, "in zit", maar het is echt de moeite waard. Voordat ik verder in herhaling val: ik kan deze serie niet genoeg aanprijzen. Kijk.

UPDATE: Oké, 1 linkje nog. En niet vergeten, ondertitels onder TT 888. Je gaat ze nodig hebben. (Maar dat is de bedoeling, en niks erg.)
