There are a bevy of celebrities that favour Elie Saab on the Red Carpet. Golden Globes Fashion 2012

What did we learn from the Golden Globes this year? Beyond just the fact that Ricky Gerveis doesn't have to be offensive to be funny and that gay dating still isn't seen much at award shows unless it's Elton John, we were exposed to a wide variety of fashion trends that you may or may not want to duplicate. Hollywood aware ceremonies are always treasure troves of style ideas for fashionistas across the world and this year was no different. Here is a rundown of the notable styles from the 2012 Golden Globes:

Mermaid tails, they're not just for Disney anymore. This year's Golden Globes saw Julianne Moore, Tina Fey, Reese Witherspoon, and Paula Patton all sporting fantastically stylish mermaid tail ensembles. The mermaid theme is popular in general right now, with everyone from Katy Perry to Lady Gaga styling stage sets, costumes, and show ambiances in the tradition of the beautiful mythological sea creatures. In the case of Katy Perry, we actually saw a mermaid engage in planking (using the hashtag #itswhatArielwoulddo), which perhaps makes sense in some kind of ironic teenie-bopper way. This years Golden Globes didn't tread fully into the universe of The Little Mermaid, but it got close.

Headbands look good on Charlize Theron. But she didn't wear any old headband, she brandished a jeweled haute couture and Cartier jewelry taken directly from museum in Geneva (no joke). Headbands are back in style right now—jelly headbands, double headbands, peacock and rooster feather headbands, polka dot, skinny, skull, striped, snake skin, designer, bow. The list goes on and on. Headbands have been a popular women's fashion accessory for some time, but the recent outpouring of trendy, high-end headbands is for real, and the Golden Globes proved it.

Other notable styles from this year's festivities were the light pink shades worn by over a dozen starlets, Angelina Jolie's Atelier Versace gown, Zooey Deschanel's Lite Brite Prada dress, Michelle Williams' blue velvet Jason Wu gown (with what else but a matching headband!), Nicole Kidman's ravishing V-strap Versace dress, Dianna Agron's Giles Deacon dress, Madonna's Reem Acra gown, and Black Swan Natalie Portman (returned to us from her maternal sabbatical) and her eye-poppingly pink Lanvin gown.

We can count on Hollywood to keep dishing us insanely creative fashion options. We don't always have to say yes to these trends, but they'll keep pouring out of the fashion mecca award shows like the Golden Globes and Oscar Awards ceremonies.

Child stars have been around since the inception of silent films at the turn of the 20th century, giving way to television programs featuring child musical performers such as Miley Cyrus who stars in the uber-popular Disney program, Hannah Montana. Jackie Coogan performed in Vaudeville at the age of 3, and became the first child movie star while acting alongside Charlie Chapin in the 1920s. Other former child stars from that era include Mickey Rooney and Shirley Temple. These early child stars paved the way for modern day child stars by lobbying for rights of child performers. As a result, modern day child stars have some protections, but for many, the pressure of fame at such an early age results in disaster.

Successful Former Child Stars

Some former child stars have graduated into adulthood while still in the public eye with accomplishment:

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen who got their start as twin tots on the popular ‘90s sitcom Full House have moved into the world of high fashion as successful designers and continue to take on minor acting roles as well. The sisters are two of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood, and ranked No. 1 on Forbes Young Hollywood Top Earning Stars in 2008 with a combined net worth of $40 million.
Raven Simon and Joey Lawrence are two former child stars who started out with starring roles in sitcoms during the 1980s, and each have continued to act in successful television sitcoms into their adulthood.
Jessica Biel and Drew Barrymore are A-list actresses who started out with minor roles as children, but are considered two of the most desirable actresses of Hollywood.
Britney Spears got her start on The Mickey Mouse Club, and even with her very public ups and downs, has continued to maintain success as a pop superstar.

Other former child stars have not been so fortunate. In fact, for every child star who found success and happiness in adulthood, you’ll find another whose life has taken a disastrous turn.

Former child stars who have succumbed to drugs:

Lindsay Lohan is infamous for her jail stints and erratic behavior as a result of alcohol and prescription drug abuse. However, Lohan was one of the hardest working child actresses in the 1990s, starring in numerous films including The Parent Trap and Mean Girls.
A famous child actor from the 1970s, Danny Bonaduce from The Partridge Family has struggled with drug addiction, been arrested multiple times for battery, and has even been homeless as an adult.

Those Who Have Died:

“The King of Pop” Michael Jackson died in 2009 from an overdose of sleeping medications.
Eighties teen star Corey Haim, most famously known for acting in Lost Boys, died in March 2010 of pneumonia following a history of substance abuse.
Gary Coleman from Different Strokes, who was the highest paid child actor of his time, died in May 2010 of a brain hemorrhage after struggling with health and personal issues for years.

Committed Suicide:

Jonathan Brandis, who starred in the Neverending Story II: The Next Chapter as well as Ladybugs with Rodney Dangerfield, committed suicide by hanging himself in 2003 at age 27.
Ms. Dana Plato from the sitcom Different Strokes died from a drug overdose at 34 following a long history of arrests and prescription drug abuse. Her death was ultimately ruled a suicide.

Children continue to act in Hollywood both on the big screen as well as on stage. While the future of any child star is impossible to predict, with a positive and grounded family and support system, it is possible that these stars will continue to shine for many years to come.

1. Sustainable Equestrian

Maybe due to the highly acclaimed Steven Spielberg movie War Horse, but the equestrian look is hot right now as we are seeing it in several high fashion magazines, websites and blogs. From equestrian inspired bags to shoes and skirts, this look is all the rage now. To make it sustainable, the shirt should be made from an all natural fabric such as hemp or organic cotton or recycled fabric such as upcycled leather.

2. Ethnic Eco Chic

There are many ways to fuse fashion and planet friendly fabrics, designs and or practices. The key is to think outside the box and devise a plan of action that involves the three R’s; recycle, reduce or reuse. We see it day in and day out, so this is not uncommon or impossible. Smaller and lesser known brands are doing it with style and not losing out financially, so hopefully bigger brands and fashion houses are not too far behind.

While the majority of Hollywood’s hottest stars have seemingly perfect teeth with many such as Tom Cruise, Ben Affleck and Demi Moore owing their perfect smiles to cosmetic dentistry, a select few buck the trend and stick with their quirky smiles. With a wide range of cosmetic dental treatments available, from simple teeth whitening to highly advanced surgical treatments such as dental implants, which celebrities could benefit from cosmetic dentistry?

Woody Harrelson who shot to fame in the sitcom Cheers has small, discolored, asymmetrical teeth with noticeable gaps in-between. Initially, gum contouring could be used to remove excessive gum tissue which covers his teeth, making his crowns appear longer and more in proportion with the rest of his face. The next step would be to whiten his teeth using laser tooth whitening; at a cosmetic dentistry clinic, laser light is used to activate the bleaching properties of a whitening gel. Once the teeth are whitened, the gaps could be closed by placing veneers on his front teeth which would be made to exactly match the new lighter color of his existing teeth.

Her apparently troubled lifestyle may well have contributed to her now seemingly uneven, decayed and stained teeth which first gained media attention in late 2011 when she was photographed at a red carpet event.

To correct her problems dentists would be likely to recommend that she abstains from any activities which are damaging to her teeth. She would have an in-depth dental assessment to determine any oral health issues which would need to be remedied before any cosmetic dental work take place. Following this dental crowns or veneers could be used to restore her teeth to appear similar to how they looked at the beginning of her acting career.

Aware winning actress Kirsten Dunst gained widespread recognition at the age of 12 playing the vampiric role of Claudia in the 1994 film Interview with the Vampire. She went on to star in many well know films including Drop Dead Gorgeous, Marie Antoinette and the blockbuster Spider-man trilogy. She has become renowned not only for her acting skills but also partly for her trademark misaligned, which she calls her “snaggle fangs”. Despite also have an overbite, Dunst is reported as saying that she has no intention to have her teeth straightened, as she is comfortable with their appearance and that they give her character. However, if she ever changes her mind, the overbite could be easily corrected in around 6 month to 1 year with the use of Invisalign™ braces, which are barely noticeable when worn.

Steve Buscemi who’s acting rolls include off-beat characters such as Mr Pink in Reservoir Dogs and Tony Blundetto in The Sopranos – has been reported as saying that if his teeth were fixed his acting career would be over. A Florida dentist is noted to have said that it appears Buscemi may well have gum disease which could be treated with antibiotics, professional deep cleaning or perhaps even surgery, depending upon the severity of the condition.

Cynthia Nixon is well known for playing the character of Miranda Hobbes from 1998 until 2004 in Sex and the City as wall as numerous other TV and big screen rolls. Despite this the teeth on either side of her front teeth protrude further than they should, causing a type of overbite which could be adjusted with orthodontic braces. She also has a gummy smile which could be corrected with a gum lift.

These purple Oran Moccasin Flats by Mossimo Supply Co. shoes are great to wear everyday. They fit well and wear even better. There is not much arch support, but they are still very comfortable. They have good tread, and I love the suede look.

Shoe Review: b.o.c. by Born Lesa Clog

I found some black Born shoes on clearance in my size even for under $25 at Gordman's – Woot! They are not the Born Toby or Born Haddon that I originally pined for, but for a fraction of the regular price, I will settle with these b.o.c. by Born Lesa Clogs. Also available from DSW for $54.95 (regularly $80) in Brown and/or Red Patent.

When I was trying them on at Gordman's, another customer warned me that they are horrible on ice and did not recommend them at all saying she owns a pair and hurt her back falling on the ice while wearing them. I agree that the sole appears “slick” with not a lot of tread, but I highly doubt they were intended to wear in icy conditions in the first place. So, I bought them anyway! How do they look on me?

I have wore these shopping, and they are quite comfortable. In fact, I think I will wear them again today… and go shopping…

Yes, I know my phone camera sucks on taking pictures. I'm just waiting for my contract to expire so I can upgrade to an iPhone! Or maybe I should invest in a “real” camera!
