IN the past 10 years Sean and Sue Delaney have worked on this property to restore the environment of two threatened species.

Master strokes

VISITORS to Adelaide this approaching spring have a unique treat in store: the Art Gallery of South Australia is mounting an exhibition of the work of a favourite son, Wilhelm Ernst Hans Franz Heysen.
Better known as Hans Heysen, he was the painter who opened the eyes of the public to the beauty of the South Australian landscape and its magnificent gum trees.
These were constants in his work because they represented his earliest memories of boyhood adventures in the Adelaide Hills. His love of the bush and its trees remained with him all his life.
Hans Heysen at the Art Gallery of South Australia opens November 14 and will run to November 15, 2009.

GM risky, says Prince Charles

Charles in GM ‘disaster' warning

The development of genetically modified crops risks creating the biggest environmental disaster “of all time”, Prince Charles has warned.
The development of GM food was damaging Earth's soil and was a gigantic experiment “gone seriously wrong”, he told the Daily Telegraph.
Instead of experimenting with such crops, the country should offer more support to local farmers, he added.

True blue food

Research shows why Aussies don't like true blue food

TOURISTS may love the taste of crocodile braised in lemon myrtle sauce, but new research shows why many Australians are reluctant to eat the local flora and fauna.
While Australian native foods are a popular novelty with tourists, locals are far less enthused about eating kangaroo, emu and crocodile, according to a University of Adelaide gastronomy graduate.
Food connoisseurs are hoping Australians become more adventurous after recent research revealed many native foods contain high levels of health promoting antioxidants.
Jessica Ramsden, who recently graduated with a Le Cordon Bleu masters of arts in gastronomy, said most Australians shied away from eating native foods because they tasted unfamiliar and were not stocked by the major supermarket chains.

Local social welfare group SACOSS is hosting a forum on food security. Guest speakers will discuss the issue, which focuses on disadvantaged people not having enough food for a healthy diet. It is estimated that just over 12 per cent of Australians earning less than $20,000 a year don't have access to enough food.

Celeb chef pans out of season produce

Celebrity British chef Gordon Ramsay says restaurants should be fined if they serve out-of-season fruit and vegetables.
“I don't want to see asparagus in the middle of December. I don't want to see strawberries from Kenya in the middle of March. I want to see it home-grown,” he said after raising his concerns with Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
“Fruit and veg should be seasonal. Chefs should be fined if they don't have ingredients in season on their menu,” he told the BBC.
Ramsay, whose London restaurants include Petrus and The Savoy Grill, said Britain had become a nation of lazy eaters who followed trends and fads rather than substance.
“There should be stringent laws, licensing laws, to make sure produce is only used in season and season only,” he added.
